“Making music has been my passion for as long as I can remember” says Simon Field, the Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts 2020 Virginia Harris Scholarship recipient.
As a result of his personality, work ethic, dependability, and musicianship, he was selected as a French Horn player for the Oconomowoc High School Wind Symphony for the last 3 years.
Simon has been studying French Horn with Dietrich Hemann of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
Simon is currently the principal hornist with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra and has many accolades in both state and national programs. Besides playing horn, he also plays trumpet and was one of few students that have performed at the state Solo and Ensemble Festival on two instruments. He consistently earned 1st place ratings on both.
As the pandemic descended upon the 2020 graduates, many events were cancelled including the final Wind Symphony concert. In lieu, Simon assembled his fellow musicians and created a video of the Oconomowoc Wind Symphony playing “With Heart and Voice.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWAn1fpqg6E
Simon has been described as a musician who has great sound, great range, is an outstanding music reader, very musical and is constantly striving to improve his performance. He will continue his musical journey at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington in the autumn.
