I began shooting with infrared film at the beginning of the digital photography takeover of the genre as a way to stay with the old school film format and still have a unique body of work. While I have a deep collection of infrared landscape images, I’ve more recently focused on rural scenery punctuated with dramatic and stormy skies. I believe this subject matter is especially appealing in the b/w infrared format. The advancement of modified digital cameras that capture in infrared has enabled me to utilize this technology, which is well suited to extreme weather photography. When I print these images, I tone the prints to resemble vintage photographs of the late 1800’s. I print on textured cotton rag archival paper and then deckle the edges. The finished print is float mounted on archival mattboard, and placed in a natural wood frame and protected with water white glazing.
