“All my life, I’ve been fascinated by stories,” said Rachel Foyer, recipient of our 2018 Virginia Harris Memorial Scholarship. “I grew up loving picture books, staring at the illustrations while begging my sister to read the words. I was fascinated by the way that the pictures told stories that I would sometimes find more interesting than the words.”
Rachel’s fascination with pictures has only grown over time, and she has become a passionate illustrator and digital designer for many activities and projects in our community. She has won a “Best Digital Effects” award from the 2017 Lake Country Film Festival for an animated short film and also generously volunteered her time for the past two years creating flyers, logos, posters, shirts and the opening animation for the festival. You may have even seen some of Rachel’s work on the big Daktronics digital screen during sporting events at Rux football stadium.
Rachel has been recognized as “Artist of the Month” at the Oconomowoc Senior High School, and as a member of the school’s Digital Design Team for the past two years, she has created logos, shirts and other designs for many student activities. She won last year’s contest to design the high school’s Post Prom logo. For four years Rachel has volunteered as Lead Graphic Designer for the high school’s Robotics Team, ensuring the Team’s imagery and graphics look as best as possible at competitions and events. Designs Rachel creates for the team include their buttons, shirts, and sponsor panels.
She plans to begin attending the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design this fall to study Illustration.
