Travis Cooke – 2019

John Rawlins Memorial Scholarship

“Ever since I first picked up a trombone in fifth grade, I became fascinated by the vast field of music,” said Travis Cooke. “Music has not only inspired me and made me happy, it has taught me some extremely important life skills that will help me with my career in the future.”

That fascination with music has only grown over time. His accolades include: Honors Orchestra of America, principal trombone, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Senior Symphony, principal trombone and WSMA State Solo and Ensemble Exemplary Soloist Award. He studies trombone with Megumi Kanda, principal trombonist of the Milwaukee Symphony and was an honorable mention concerto winner in the 2018 and 2019 Milwaukee Symphony Young Artists Concerto Competitions.

He is also a three-year scholar athlete (golf), a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society.

We wish continued success to Travis as he continues to grow as a musician and scholar while attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison to study Trombone Performance and Computer Science.
